A Tasmanian Town Can't Stop Seeing Orbs — And Now the Mayor Wants Answers Too

It's not just Washington state and Skamania County dealing with strange lights lately. Halfway around the world, a small Tasmanian community has been staring at the sky every night for over a month, and even the mayor wants answers.

It Started Over a Mountain Called Mother Cummings Peak

According to local reporting, residents of the Meander Valley region first spotted glowing orbs hovering near Mother Cummings Peak at the start of July. That alone might have been dismissed as a one-off. But the lights came back the very next night, and they have kept returning, becoming a near-nightly fixture in the sky over the following weeks.

The Mayor Wants Answers Too

What makes this one stand out is that it is not just residents talking. The local mayor has publicly said he wants to get to the bottom of what is going on, which is a notable break from the usual pattern of local officials staying quiet on UFO reports. When elected officials start asking the same questions as their constituents, it tends to mean the sightings have become too frequent and too public to brush off.

Tasmania Has Been Here Before

Australia has a long, documented history of UFO reports, and Tasmania specifically has produced sightings going back decades, including old newspaper accounts of flying saucers spotted from towns like George Town. This new cluster near Meander Valley fits into that longer regional pattern rather than standing alone.

Why We're Watching This One

Persistent, multi-night sightings over a fixed location are a different animal than a single blurry photo. They are harder to explain away as one misidentified plane or planet, and they give investigators a real chance to set up cameras and actually study the pattern. We'll keep tracking what Meander Valley turns up. Seeing anything strange in your own sky? Call the U.S. Phenomenon hotline at 775-990-5151 and tell us about it.
